Energy & infrastructure for existing buildings

Better-performing buildings. A clearer path forward.

Understand how your facilities use energy, decide which improvements matter most, and carry them through design, construction and verification with one coordinated team.

One coordinated path

From first assessment to verified results

Five stages, one team. You approve each stage before the next begins, and every stage connects to a service you can start with on its own.

  1. Assess

Understand how your buildings use energy today.

    Energy audits & assessments
  2. Prioritize

    Decide which improvements matter most.

    Energy modeling & analysis
  3. Plan

Design the work and line up approvals and funding.

    Funding & incentive support
  4. Implement

    Build and commission the improvements.

    Integrated design/build
  5. Verify

Confirm the improvements are working, and keep them working.

    Monitoring & verification

Verification results become the baseline for the next round of assessment.

Monitoring & verification

Know whether improvements are working

Measurement and verification (M&V) compares energy use after a project with the baseline measured before it. Astro’s Eco-1 monitoring and analytics system supports each stage.

  • Before: installed early to establish current-state use and cost. This alone can reveal operational improvements that cost little or nothing.
  • During: monitoring during construction supports commissioning and confirms that selected measures are performing.
  • After: post-measure monitoring checks that performance continues over time.
How measurement and verification worksAn illustrative chart, without values. Energy use is measured before improvements to set a baseline. After improvements, measured use is compared with what the baseline predicts; the difference is the verified change. Ongoing monitoring flags any drift back toward the baseline.Energy useTimeBEFOREDURINGAFTERMeasured baselineBaseline projected forwardMeasured after improvementsVerified changeDrift flagged
Illustrative only. Actual results depend on the building and the measures installed, and are reported from measured data.

Funding & incentives

Help paying for improvements, without overpromising

Explore ways to pay for energy improvements, and get help with the documentation incentives require.

Funding & incentive support
  • Funding conversations: Astro works with funding partners, including private equity investor groups, to explore financing options for energy projects.
  • Building the case: audits, energy modeling and monitoring plans give funders the engineering analysis they need to evaluate a project.
  • Incentive identification: finding utility and tax incentives that may apply to the planned measures.
  • Incentive documentation: preparing the detailed documentation many programs require before a reservation is submitted.

What to expect

Financing is subject to each funder’s own review and terms, and incentive programs change over time. Eligibility depends on the program, the utility and the project.

Astro does not promise financing approval, savings or budget outcomes in advance. We will tell you which options are realistic once we understand your project.

Questions

Common questions

Have a different question? Ask Astro searches everything on this site.

Where should we start if our energy bills keep increasing?

Usually with a utility billing analysis and an energy audit at the level that fits the decision you face. Together they establish a baseline and show where energy and cost are going.

Monitoring with Eco-1 can add detail on when and where energy is used, sometimes revealing operational fixes that cost little or nothing.

Energy audits & assessments
What is the difference between an energy audit and energy modeling?

An audit looks at the building as it is today: how it uses energy, the condition of its systems and which measures look promising. Modeling looks forward, simulating how the building would perform with different combinations of measures so you can compare options before choosing.

Audit or modeling
Can you help us plan upgrades for aging equipment?

Yes. An infrastructure assessment identifies systems that are degrading and supports capital renewal decisions. Modeling can compare replacement options, and integrated design/build can carry the chosen upgrades through design, construction and commissioning.

Integrated design/build
Will you tell us how much we will save?

Not before we understand your building. Audits and modeling estimate the effect of specific measures, and monitoring and verification measure actual performance afterwards. We do not quote savings or guarantee outcomes up front.

Monitoring & verification
What funding options should we discuss?

Astro works with funding partners, including private equity investor groups, and helps identify and document utility and tax incentives. What is available depends on your project, your utility and each funder’s review, so we discuss options once we understand the project.
